Southbridge Community Garden Workshop and Volunteer @ Southbridge Community Garden Workshop and Volunteer | Wilmington | Delaware | United States

Learn all about getting started with organic growing with DE Permaculture and protecting your garden beds from critters big and small. Stop by and visit. As always, there is no cost to attend.

406 S. Heald Street, Wilmington

https://www.facebook.com/SouthbridgeCommunityGarden

Saturday, May 28 from 10-12pm – is a free Workshop and Volunteer Day at the Community Garden (406 S. Heald).  On the last Saturday of every month (through November), you are invited to a workshop and volunteer day. This month’s workshop will be focused on youth. Children will have fun while making the world a greener, more environmentally-friendly place with balls of seeds that are an easy way to grow native wildflowers.  We’ll also be working to keep the garden looking its best by pulling some weeds and planting some seeds. We hope you can join us for this fun and educational event, or just stop by for a visit.  For more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1703129286597339/.

The Southbridge Community Garden has some exciting news to share.  Firstly, we’re starting the season off with a FREE workshop next Saturday, March 26, from 10-12pm, at the community garden (406 S. Heald Street).

We’re also launching a Pop-up Farmers Market and Youth Farm Stand this year!  These markets will feature organically-grown produce harvested from the Southbridge Community & Youth Gardens.

  • The Youth Farm Stand will take place on the last Friday of every month, starting Friday, June 26 from 3-5pm at the Neighborhood House (1218 B Street, Wilmington).  All organic produce will be grown and sold by local Wilmington youth.  In addition, the Farm Stand will feature health educators, cooking demonstrations, community organizations, worm composting demonstrations, live music, and so much more!  You won’t be able to beat the home grown flavors or prices anywhere!  All proceeds support the youth and community garden programs.  Please visit Facebook to learn more:https://www.facebook.com/youthgardenfarmstand.

  • The Southbridge Farmers Market will “pop-up” in between monthly Youth Farm Stand days, on Saturdays from 12-2pm, beginning Saturday, June 11th.  The market will be located at the Community Garden (406 S. Heald Street, Wilmington). This market is managed by community members, featuring produce grown by community members, offering organically-grown produce at excellent prices, with all proceeds being returned to the community at the end of the season.

It doesn’t get any better!  To learn more or to volunteer to help with the farm stand or pop-up market, please visitwww.facebook.com/SouthbridgeCommunityGarden or reply to this email.

All the best,

Randi

How Restorative Justice Addresses Harms Caused by Crime
Nov 27 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Delaware’s criminal justice system hasn’t been effective in making our communities safer, reducing recidivism, supporting victims, protecting law enforcement and corrections officers, or using our tax dollars wisely. Restorative Justice addresses these issues. Join Delaware Citizens Opposed to the Death Penalty at our 2017 Annual Meeting as we host BARBIE FISCHER, Restorative Justice Practitioner and Executive Director of Restorative Encounters. Ms. Fischer will speak on: REIMAGINING JUSTICE: HOW RESTORATIVE JUSTICE SATISFIES THE NEEDS OF VICTIMS, OFFENDERS, AND COMMUNITIES. A brief business meeting will be held at 6;45pm, just prior to the talk. The meeting and talk are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Free parking available. Crime causes injury to people and communities. Restorative Justice offers principles and practices to address the harms that have occurred, the needs that have arisen from those harms, and who is obligated to meet those needs. Barbie Fischer is Executive Director of Restorative Encounters, a non-profit whose aim is to encourage taking responsibility for our actions and working toward healing all affected by crime. Ms. Fischer has over 15 years of experience in restorative justice, working in community and program development with various organizations around the world.
